One of my adventures on my USA trip was going hot air ballooning in Arizona. It was a very early start to the day (we had to be up at 4am) but for an experience like this it was worth it!
We had to wait around as the balloons were prepared. It was June (Summer in the USA) and the day was heating up rather quickly.
I was rather nervous about this as I am not the best with heights but also because we were essentially going to be flying in a basket, held by material and hot air.
I didn’t even realise that we had left the ground. It was smooth and peaceful, except for the blasts of hot air that were required for us to stay up and floating.
We saw cactus after cactus, a few animals and a lot of open space. It was warm and yet so relaxing and peaceful. We floated along for close to an hour.
The landing was a little rough. We were all instructed to face one way and get into a brace/squat type position. We were warned that sometimes the basket will tip. We bounced along a bit and I felt us tip slightly but we landing upright. You don’t realise how fast you are going in these hot air balloons until you come into land.
Afterwards we enjoyed a champagne breakfast which included chocolate croissants. Yum!
They then read out The Balloonist’s Prayer:
“The winds have welcomed you with softness. The sun has blessed you with his warm hands. You have flown so well and so high, that God has joined you in your laughter and set you gently back again into the loving arms of Mother Earth.”
Have you been hot air ballooning? Where? It sure is something to cross off the bucketlist!
